Step 18 - Opening up the AVI File in MovieMaker

Whew! We Finally Made It!
Click on the video to the right to play it. This short video covers the final steps of getting the video from your Canon HG10 video camera into Windows Moviemaker.

Let's enumerate these steps:

  • Open Windows Movie Maker!*
  • Pick the File menu.
  • About in the middle of the File menu is the option: Import Into Collections... Click it!
  • Use the "Import File" dialog box to find the AVI file you've created, select it and click the Import button.
  • Depending on the length of the clip the import could take several minutes.
  • Start editing your movie!

* Having a hard time finding Windows Moviemaker on your PC? You won't find it on a Mac! Once I had a hard time finding it myself. I couldn't find it on the Start menu, I couldn't find an icon for it on my Windows desktop either! I started looking through different directories on my PC and I finally found it. Chances are you'll find it here:

   C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\moviemk.exe

If you had to go through the trouble of finding the icon, you might want to go through to trouble of creating a Windows shortcut for it on your desktop! The icon will look like the one below:
